Directions for Using Random Quiz Generator

Make sure that you DOWNLOAD the above documents to your computer before continuing. Do NOT choose Open when you click them. Choose Save for both documents before you follow then directions below. If your computer does not give you a Save option, try to right-click the link to find a Save option.
Because the extensions are different, your computer will allow you to save them with the same name as each other. Also, if you save them to the same location, they will be listed consecutively in their folder which eases organization.

To Create a New Quiz

1. Navigate to the folder where you saved both files and open the Excel file called Quiz_Generator.xlsx.
2. Resave the file with a new name in a specific location of your choice. (This file is where you will create the quiz content that will feed “data” into your quiz template.)
3. Edit the document by providing a quiz name, que​stions and appropriate distracters (wrong answers) for each question.
4. Open the Word Template called Quiz_Generator.doc. You will see the following dialogue box. Click Yes.

5. Resave the file under a new name in a specific location of your choice. (You could and should name this file with the same name you chose for the Excel File in Step 2 above. Because the extensions are different it will allow you to do so.)
6. Go to the Mailings tab. Choose Select Recipients. Choose Use Existing List

7. Navigate for the Excel file that you renamed in Step 2.
8. Select the File and click Open. A dialogue box should appear prompting you to select a specific sheet of the Excel file to connect to. Choose the one called 'Pick Me$'.

9. Click the Preview Merge button to verify that the data from the excel file is loaded correctly into your word document. You can use the arrow buttons in the tool bar to navigate through the documents that have been created by the merge.


To Print the Quizzes

1. Go to the Mailings tab.
2. Click Finish and Merge. Select Merge to Printer.
3. Select a printer and click OK. Printing 1 copy will yield 24 distinct documents. For the sake of being GREEN, please only print as many as you need.

Grading the Quizzes

1. Open the Excel Document that corresponds to quiz you have given.
2. Go to the Answer Key Tab.
3. A version number is printed on each of the quizzes in the top right of the page. Enter the version number at the top of the sheet on the Answer Key Tab and the appropriate answers that match that version will appear in the subsequent cells.



Printing 1 copy of the whole merge will yield 24 quizzes that will print to the same printer.
